SINGAPORE: The inaugural Singapore Jewellery and Gem Fair opened on Saturday, with some US$1 billion worth of gems on offer.
Organisers say the fair is aimed at big spenders and trade buyers from the region.
Gracing the opening was Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing, who also gave away prizes for the Singapore Jewellery Design Awards.
The fair has 12 pavilions -- three themed ones, and nine country pavilions.
The themed pavilions are Designer Atelier, Exquisite, and Antique, while the country pavilions hail from China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, and Italy, among others.
283 exhibitors from 28 countries are taking part in the four-day event at the Marina Bay Sands' convention halls.
