SINGAPORE: Superhero Spider-Man will be in Singapore to join this year's global flagship event for Earth Hour, a global lights-out event.
Andrew Garfield, who plays Spider-Man in the movie, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx, together with the directors and producers, will help to switch off the lights across the Marina Bay skyline on 29 March at 8.30pm at The Float@Marina Bay.
Announced by WWF Singapore on Thursday, Spider-Man is the first superhero ambassador for Earth Hour to join the global celebration in Singapore.
Through this partnership, Earth Hour hopes to inspire individuals to do their part for the planet.
Elaine Tan, CEO of WWF Singapore, said: "To get people to rally around an environmental cause is a challenge. You need to get an iconic figure or an iconic symbol that can relate to people's way of viewing the environment. The living legacy of a superhero has that image there - look within yourself, you can use your power to make that difference."
WWF Singapore urged all to “use your power” for four green initiatives - turning up the air-conditioning by one degree, switching to LED lighting, using fewer plastic bags and taking shorter showers.
The movement is targeting to collect about 20,000 pledges via their microsite.
This year's Earth Hour will coincide with the closing of i Light Marina Bay.
The celebration will take place at The Float@Marina Bay on 29 March from 5pm.
Additionally, a first crowdfunding project called Stop the Killing! was also announced to stop animal trafficking in Southeast Asia.
