Standard Chartered Marathon 2014: 3 things to note

New this year: A registration model designed to reward participants who sign up early - including a fee of just S$1 for 100 registrants at the launch event on July 16.

SINGAPORE: Moving away from the Early Bird registration model and bringing the registration drive to five running communities are among some of the new features planned by the organisers of the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore.

Here are three things to note for this year's marathon:

1. EARLY BIRDS GET THE DISCOUNT
Registration is now designed to reward participants who sign up early, with fees set at a certain amount per race category. Separated into three phases - Priority+, Priority and Normal - the discounted registration fee will only move to the next price range when the numbers of pre-determined race slots for each category have been claimed.

2. REGISTER FOR S$1, IF YOU'RE QUICK
The official launch event for the marathon will take place at ION Orchard on July 16, while online registration opens at 11am that day. For those who like to sign up in person, a total of 100 registration slots will be available at the launch - 42 slots for Marathon, 21 slots for Half Marathon, 10 slots for 10km and 27 slots for Kids Dash - for just S$1, on a first-come-first-served basis.

3. COMING TO A ROADSHOW NEAR YOU ...
In a first for Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore, the registration drive will also be be brought to five community roadshows. The roadshows at Jurong West; Sengkang; Pasir Ris; Toa Payoh; and Yio Chu Kang Sports Centres will take place on the weekends of July 19 to 20 and July 26 to 27.
