Understand the unique situations of pioneers: Grace Fu

A key challenge in communicating the benefits of the Pioneer Generation Package and MediShield Life to seniors is in helping them understand how the schemes can help them in their own unique situations, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu on Sunday (August 3)

SINGAPORE: A key challenge in communicating the benefits of the Pioneer Generation Package and MediShield Life to seniors is in helping them understand how the schemes can help them in their own unique situations.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu said this on Sunday (August 3) on the sidelines of a grassroots event where she handed out Pioneer Generation cards to residents in the Yuhua constituency.

In April, a 22-member taskforce - made up of people from the public and private sectors - was set up to raise awareness among Singapore's pioneer generation about the healthcare benefits they are entitled to. Ms Fu said those who have been tasked to explain the benefits of the various schemes have to understand the individuals' circumstances for the schemes to be seen as relevant.

"We need a lot of time, a lot of manpower, to go down to explain exactly how it works for them,” said Ms Fu. “What we do here in a big group is try to create awareness and some general understanding. But when it comes to really real life transactions and how the premiums will affect them and so on, if they have pre-existing illness and what does it mean to them, we need to really spend time with them."
