SINGAPORE: 111 volunteers and corporate supporters were commended at the biennial SAFRA Awards on Wednesday (Aug 6), for championing its mission to recognise NSmen for their contributions to national defence. These recipients had volunteered their time and expertise towards the development of SAFRA, the National Service Resort and Country Club (NSRCC) and SAFRA radio.
Some new projects managed by volunteers and staff, include the waterfront SAFRA Punggol Club, the enhancement works to SAFRA Mount Faber, and redevelopment of SAFRA Tampines and NSRCC.
Addressing the volunteers at the 13th SAFRA Awards, Minister for Defence and Chairman of the SAFRA Board of Governors, Dr Ng Eng Hen said, "Selfless, you give in time and give in effort as you believe that our NSmen's contribution should be recognised. That will motivate them to be serious to defend this nation. This is an important part of Total Defence."

The recipients are 25-year-old Zhao Dexin, who spearheaded the formation of SAFRA Entrepreneurs' Club and 36-year-old Don Goh, chairman of the SAFRA Dragon Boat Team that clinched the bronze medal at the recent Singapore Dragonboat Festival 2014.
