Xbox One to launch in Singapore Sept 23

Prices for Microsoft’s latest console will start at S$639.

LOS ANGELES: Good news for Xbox fans in Singapore: Microsoft's long-awaited Xbox One will launch here on Sept 23 at S$639, the technology giant announced on Monday (June 9).

The Xbox One will also be sold in a package with the Kinect motion controller at S$739. The Xbox One will launch with 15 titles – including titles currently released in overseas markets – with more games to be launched towards the end of the year. Another 12 titles will be released by the end of the year, including Sunset Overdrive, Evolve and Forza Horizon 2.

At the Xbox One’s launch last year, Mr Alan Bowman, regional vice president of Microsoft’s retail sales and marketing division in the Greater Asia region, said that the delayed release in Asian markets was due to creating the “right localised content, right applications”. However, Mr Bowman said on Monday he had “no additional news about content partnerships” at this point.

The release comes almost eight months after its main competitor, the Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4), was released on Dec 19 last year. When asked about the head start the PS4 has in the Singapore market, Mr Bowman said Microsoft still has a “deep commitment to Asian gamers”. Microsoft has also said that gamers in Singapore can look forward to having a bigger library of games at launch.

The release date was announced in a press release right after Microsoft’s Media Briefing at E3, which featured the upcoming games to be released this year and next year. Further launch details about the Xbox One, including pre-orders and launch game bundles, will be announced at a later date.
