Yaacob Ibrahim discusses Singapore's haj quota with Saudi Arabia

Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim has discussed Singapore's request to revise its official haj quota from 680 to 800 with Saudi's Haj Minister Bandar Bin Mohammed Hajja.

SINGAPORE: Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim has discussed Singapore's request to revise its official haj quota from 680 to 800 with Saudi's Haj Minister Bandar Bin Mohammed Hajja.

"I also seek the goodwill of Dr Bandar to grant us additional 1,500 places to meet the aspirations of our Muslim community to fulfil their religious obligations to perform the 5th pillar of Islam," said Dr Yaacob in his Facebook posting on Tuesday. 

Dr Yaacob, who is also Communications and Information Minister, made the remarks as he concluded his visit to Saudi Arabia in Makkah.

In his Facebook post, Dr Yaacob said he is grateful to Dr Bandar for the warm hospitality and an excellent meeting.

He congratulated the Saudi government for a smooth and successful haj last year, and conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for the excellent services accorded to Singaporean pilgrims.
