SINGAPORE: Communications and Information Minister Yaacob Ibrahim will be in Cannes, France for three days from Sunday to attend the Marché International des Films et des Programmes pour la Télévision, la Vidéo, le Cable et le Satellite (MIPCOM) 2013.
MIPCOM, to be held on Ocotober 7 to 10, is one of the world's largest media trade markets for creating, co-producing, buying, selling, financing and distributing entertainment content across all platforms.
More than 13,000 participants and over 100 companies are expected at the event this year.
A statement from the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) said Singapore will be represented by 24 companies, which is 20 per cent more than the previous year, under the Singapore Pavilion led by the Media Development Authority (MDA).
They include a good mix of TV production, animation and content distribution companies such as August Media Holdings, Infinite Studios, Monstrou Studios, TVS Asia/Sunrise Entertainment, Very! and Widescreen Media.
Dr Yaacob will also visit international media companies like A+E Networks, BBC Worldwide and FremantleMedia to understand the trends, future direction of the industry and explore areas of collaboration for Singapore media companies.
Dr Yaacob will be accompanied by officials from MCI and MDA.
MDA said over 80 quality Singapore TV and animation programme titles will be offered for international sale and distribution at MIPCOM 2013.
These will cover more than 400 hours of factual, drama and animation content.
MDA added that this is Singapore's 13th expedition to MIPCOM -- one of the world's largest audiovisual and digital content market.
