Parliament will sit at 1.30pm on Monday (Jan 25) to debate the President’s address. This will be the first sitting of Parliament after various ministries issued their addenda in response to Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam’s speech on Jan 15.
Parliament highlights on Monday focused on the recent security breach at Woodlands Checkpoint. Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean said a ministry-level committee has been formed to review security measures at Singapore's two checkpoints. On another security issue, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli said about 350 travellers per year have been detected to be in possession of forged or tampered passports, or had presented a passport that do not belong to them. The Geographical Indications Bill was among two Bills passed.
