Parliament on Tuesday (Jul 14) passed an amendment to a Bill that paves the way for the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) to be renamed as ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, in honour of Singapore's first president. Other Bills were also passed including the Bankruptcy (Amendment) Bill.
Parliament highlights on Monday focused on the recent security breach at Woodlands Checkpoint. Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean said a ministry-level committee has been formed to review security measures at Singapore's two checkpoints. On another security issue, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli said about 350 travellers per year have been detected to be in possession of forged or tampered passports, or had presented a passport that do not belong to them. The Geographical Indications Bill was among two Bills passed.
