STOCKHOLM: Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia smashed the 20-year-old indoor 3,000m record with a run of 8min 16.60sec on Thursday.
Dibaba, 22, sister of Olympic 5,000m and 10,000m champion Tirunesh, knocked almost eight seconds off the previous record of 8:23.72 set in 1983 by her compatriot Meseret Defar.
To underline her dominance, she crossed the finish line 13sec ahead of Kenya's Hellen Obiri.
It was her second indoor world best in five days after her 1,500m record in Karlsruhe, Germany, last Sunday.
Dibaba, who is also the niece of double Olympic 10,000m champion Derartu Tulu, knocked more than three seconds off the indoor 1,500m record of 3:58.28 with a run of 3:55.17.
