KUALA LUMPUR: World number one Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia on Thursday reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
In the third round match, Lee beat R. M. V. Gurusaidutt of India, 21-10, 18-21, 21-15 in 56 minutes.
The All-England runner-up will meet Bin Qiao in the quarter-final after the Chinese player beat Kento Momota of Japan 21-19, 21-18.
Chong Wei Feng advanced after beating Anand Pawar of India, 21-19,21-15 but Liew Daren lost to Dong Keun Lee of Korea, 14-21, 21-17,15-21.
Women's singles player Sonia Cheah failed to make the quarter-final losing 15-21, 21-23 to Hui Xirui of China.
In the men's doubles, Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong beat Kaixiang Huang/Jianqi Tao, 21-13, 21-6 in 29 minutes.
