SINGAPORE: Singapore athlete Mok Ying Ren has withdrawn from the Marathon event at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This is due to an existing injury which has not recovered in time for his run on Sunday (July 27).

Mok said that he had been nursing the injury on his right shin for the "past couple of weeks" but was positive of his chances of a recovery. However, the pain recurred after a few runs.

He said: "After consulting with the medical team, coaches and officials, I believe my body is telling me that it is not ready for 42km of pounding and I would risk long-term consequences if I do proceed."

He added that he remains focused on the "longer term".
