Commonwealth Games: Singapore paddlers reach quarters-finals

Two of Singapore's mixed doubles pairs have made it to the quarter-finals at the Commonwealth Games table tennis tournament.

GLASGOW: Two of Singapore's mixed doubles pairs have made it to the quarter-finals at the Commonwealth Games table tennis tournament.

Feng Tianwei and Zhan Jian took just 19 minutes to beat their rivals from Nigeria 3-0. Gao Ning and Lin Ye, meanwhile, faced greater resistance from their Indian opponents, but eventually won 3-2.

However, two other Singapore pairs were beaten. Clarence Chew and Isabelle Li were defeated 3-0 by their Canadian opponents, while Li Hu and Yu Mengyu lost to their rivals from England by the same score.

In the women's singles event, Feng, Lin, and Yu are also through to the quarter-finals, all of them winning their matches 4-1. Feng beat Australia's Dederko Zhenhua, Lin swept aside England's Sibley Kelly, while Yu defeated India's Shamini Kumaresan.
