GLASGOW: Weightlifter Lewis Chua has broken the national record in the above 105kg category. Competing in his debut Commonwealth Games, Chua, 22, finished 10th among 12 competitors with his total lift of 315kg.
Chua lifted 135kg for the snatch, but his 182kg total for the clean and jerk is a new national record. The performance augurs well for his preparation ahead of his participation at November's World Championships in Kazakhstan. "I am pretty satisfied; it was a pretty strong field of opponents,” said Chua.
Meanwhile, Singapore’s second weightlifting participant, Scott Wong, finished last. Wong attained 135kg for the snatch but did not meet the minimum requirement for the clean and jerk round.
