SINGAPORE: The LionsXII's Malaysia Cup campaign got off to a disappointing start at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Wednesday evening (Aug 13). Coach Fandi Ahmad's team had to settle for a goalless draw with Felda United, a team which played in the second-tier Malaysian Premier League this season.
Before the match kicked off, a minute of silence was observed in honour of the victims of the two Malaysia Airlines planes - MH370 and MH17.
After several near misses by both sides, winger Gabriel Quak had the best chance to put the hosts ahead a minute before the break, but his attempt went narrowly wide.
Defender Safuwan Baharudin's timely interception prevented striker Edward Wilson from giving Felda the lead on the hour mark.
In the 68th minute, LionsXII custodian Izwan Mahbud pulled off a spectacular save from point-blank range, and the teams ended up sharing the spoils.
The LionsXII will take on Pahang FA next at the same venue on Tuesday (Aug 19).
