Football: Fanfare kickstarts S League season

SINGAPORE: The 2014 S League season kicks off on Friday with the Charity Shield match, where defending champions Tampines Rovers will take on 2013 Singapore Cup winners Home United.

A fanfare to drum up support for the S League was held at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday.

One of the highlights of the event was the football community creating a giant formation of the “OUR S League” logo on the stadium pitch.

Those who created the formation include S League club chairmen, players, officials, fans and the boys from the Centres of Excellence.

Football Association of Singapore (FAS) advisor, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, FAS general secretary Winston Lee and S League CEO Lim Chin also joined in creating the formation.

This season, new measures that will be undertaken include enhancing the match day experience for fans -- like a clapper at every match, a full team line-up with photographs, match statistics and match day preview.

Fans will also be entertained during half-time intervals by live performances at selected matches and get a chance to take photos with the club mascots.

There will also be free finger food, like donuts and ice-cream, for the first 500 fans attending the matches.
