New LionsXII Coach Fandi Ahmad said he is keen to help prepare the Singapore football team for the 2015 SEA Games.
SINGAPORE: New LionsXII Coach Fandi Ahmad said he is keen to help prepare the Singapore football team for the 2015 SEA Games.
With just one and half year left to the games in Singapore, the former international hopes to recruit more young national players into the LionsXII team.
Fandi has had his third training session with the LionsXII, since taking over on December 12. However, he will only get to train with the full squad later this month after some of them return from their breaks and commitments with the national team.
The former captain of the Singapore team revealed he had a hand in the selection of Nazri Nasir as his deputy.
As for the team, Fandi admitted that the strike force needs to be beefed up, with some of the veterans leaving the team after the 2013 Malaysian Super League win.
To get his team prepared for the 2014 Malaysian Super League season, Fandi is organising a pre-season tour to Indonesia.
The 51-year old also commented on Singapore's loss to Thailand in the SEA Games football semi-final, saying that Singapore was the better side.
He has not ruled out his involvement, when the Young Lions play on home ground at the 2015 SEA Games.
Fandi said: "I am a supporter here, (and I will) try to help the team... We hope to get more Young Lions players, maybe in the transfer window, so that we can give them the opportunity. The next SEA Games will be in one and half years, so it's not that far off."
