Football: LionsXII to face Pahang, Felda United, JDT II in Malaysia Cup

The LionsXII have been drawn to face Pahang, Felda United and Johor Darul Takzim II in Group A of this year's Malaysia Cup, the Football Association of Singapore said on Sunday.

SINGAPORE: The LionsXII have been drawn to face Pahang, Felda United and Johor Darul Takzim II in Group A of this year's Malaysia Cup, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) said on Sunday (July 13).

A total of 16 teams -- split into four groups of four teams each -- will be participating in this 88th edition of the Malaysia Cup.

The LionsXII will have to finish in the top two of their group to proceed to the knockout stages.

"Although results did not go our way in the Malaysian Super League, we won our final game so I hope we will maintain that momentum going into the Cup. " said LionsXII assistant coach Nazri Nasir, who was present at the draw held in Kuala Lumpur.

"The players are hungry to prove a point, and I hope our fans will pack the stands at Jalan Besar Stadium to give us the extra push," he added.

Singapore teams have done well in the Malaysia Cup, having won the tournament 24 times -- the second-most number of wins -- despite not competing between 1995 and 2011.

The LionsXII had performed poorly in this year's Malaysian Super League though, finishing eighth in the 12-team competition.

Details of the fixtures will be released in due course.
