Players from Serie A champions Juventus' record-breaking season will be coming to Singapore, for a match at the new National Stadium on August 16.
SINGAPORE: Reigning Italian Serie A champions will be in Singapore on August 16 to play against a Singapore Selection side. This will be the first major football match at the new Sports Hub National Stadium. Juventus' Commercial Director Francesco Calvo was in Singapore on Tuesday (June 10) to talk about the upcoming match.
The Italian promised that all players from the famed "bianconeri" side will make the trip to Singapore and even showed off Juventus' Serie A trophy at the event. Juventus had won 33 games to set a new league record of 102 points as they claimed their third straight Scudetto.
Singapore national team's coach, Bernd Stange was also present at the news conference and he was clearly excited about the showdown.
"World stars are in Singapore, there is nothing like it. To have (Gianluigi) Buffon, to have (Carlos) Tevez, to have (Andrea) Pirlo and all these famous football players, role models for our youth teams, for everybody. We will make good preparations because the best players of Singapore should be available on August 16 to play Juventus," he said.
Juventus will be visiting Australia before their Singapore trip, and Mr Calvo revealed they have plans to expand in Asia.
"We been missing in Asia for too long. We are expanding our digital platforms into Asia and we see that our fanbase in this part of the world is constantly growing. Fans are quite fanatic, which is positive, so we believe we have plenty of opportunity to go into Asia. We just need to do it step by step."
