China's world sprint champion Yu Jing withdrew from the Winter Olympics on Thursday with a hip injury, officials said.

SOCHI, Russia: China's world sprint champion Yu Jing withdrew from the Winter Olympics on Thursday with a hip injury, officials said.

The 28-year-old was scheduled to compete in the women's 500m and 1000m at the Adler Arena.

International Skating Union (ISU) technical official Alexander Kibalko confirmed that Yu was injured and would not compete.

China had already lost short track speed skater Wang Meng from the Games with a broken ankle.

The loss of the 28-year-old Wang was a bitter blow for China, as she took three of the national team's five gold medals at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.
