Olympics: Singapore's Mark Chay, Cecilia Low appointed official roles for YOG

Former national swimmer Mark Chay has been named Singapore's Chef de Mission for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Nanjing. He will be assisted by sailor Cecilia Low, who was appointed young ambassador for the YOG.

SINGAPORE: Former national swimmer Mark Chay has been named Singapore's Chef de Mission for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Nanjing.

The 2002 Sportsman of the Year and former CEO of the Singapore Hockey Federation will be assisted by sailor Cecilia Low, who was appointed Young Ambassador for the YOG.

Chay, 33, represented Singapore at the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004, and is a multiple gold medallist and record holder at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

He was Singapore's flag bearer at the Busan Asian Games in 2002.

23-year-old Low is a world champion in the 420 dinghy class.

She triumphed at the World Championships in Austria in 2012, to add to her Asian Games crown in Guangzhou in 2010.

Two months ago, she partnered her sister Priscilla to win the women's 470 gold medal at the SEA Games in Myanmar.

The Nanjing Games will be held from 16-28 August.
