Singapore sailors performing well at YOG 2014

Sailors Bernie Chin and Samantha Yom are ranked in high spots with four more races to go at the Youth Olympic Games. 

SINGAPORE: The Republic’s sailors performed well at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing on Wednesday (Aug 20).

Bernie Chin leads the men's Byte CII competition after finishing in the top 5 in his three races. The 15-year-old, who started the day in 13th position overall, won Race 5 before finishing fifth and third in the following two races to go to the top of the 30-man fleet.

After the races, Bernie has 33 points, four ahead of Brazil's Pedro Luiz Marcondes Correa, with four races to go. Portugal's Rodolfo Pires is three points adrift.

In the women's Byte CII, Samantha Yom is in second place with four races remaining. She finished second in Races 5 and 6, and 11th in Race 7.

She trails Odile van Aanholt of the Netherlands by four points, with Italy's Carolina Albano currently occupying third place.
