SINGAPORE: Singapore has ended its campaign at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Tour Grand Finals in Dubai on a high.
The men's doubles team of Gao Ning and Li Hu beat Taiwan's Chiang Hung Chieh and Huang Sheng Sheng in the best-of-seven final to clinch Singapore's second gold medal at the tournament.
Singapore won its first gold medal of the tournament on Friday, when Lin Ye beat her opponent from Hong Kong 4-2 in the Under-21 Girls singles category.
It was not quite as straightforward for Gao and Li, who had to endure a rollercoaster match against Chiang and Huang.
The Singaporean duo lost the first game, but stormed back in the next two.
They were pegged back again by their opponents in the fourth.
Each side then took one game apiece, before Gao and Li trumped the decider to win the encounter 4-3.
The win was their second in a day, following a semi-final victory over South Korea in the morning.
Singapore missed out on a medal in the women's doubles category earlier on Saturday, after Feng Tianwei and Yu Mengyu crashed out to Germany at the quarter-final stage.
The pair lost to German opponents Barthel Zhenqi and Shan Xiaona, in six games.
