Defending Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka and Japanese 10th seed Kei Nishikori have made it through to the last 16 at Wimbledon on Monday.
LONDON: Defending Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka and Japanese star Kei Nishikori made it through to the last 16 at Wimbledon on Monday.
Fifth-seeded Wawrinka defeated Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. The Swiss, who last reached the fourth round in 2009, will face either John Isner of the United States or Spain's Feliciano Lopez for a place in the quarter-finals.
In an earlier match, the 10th seed Nishikori advanced to his first Wimbledon quarter-finals after taking four games to finish off Italian lucky loser Simon Bolelli.
Their third round contest was suspended at 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), 3-3 in fading light on Saturday and Nishikori returned two days later to win the deciding set 6-4.
Nishikori faces Canadian eighth seed Milos Raonic for a place in the quarter-finals.
