Tennis: Rosol outlasts Lu to reach Winston-Salem final

Czech veteran Lukas Rosol reached the final of the ATP Winston-Salem tournament by defeating Taiwan's Lu Yen-Hsun 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 on Friday (Aug 22) at the US Open warm-up event.

WINSTON-SALEM, United States: Czech veteran Lukas Rosol reached the final of the ATP Winston-Salem tournament by defeating Taiwan's Lu Yen-Hsun 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 on Friday (Aug 22) at the US Open warm-up event.

Rosol, who advanced Thursday by walkover when US top seed John Isner withdrew with an ankle injury, needed two hours and three minutes to oust Lu and give himself a chance at a second career ATP title.

Rosol, 29, advanced to a Saturday championship match against the winner of a later semi-final between Poland's Jerzy Janowicz and American Sam Querrey.

Rosol, ranked 33rd, won his first career ATP crown last year at Bucharest in his first ATP final. He lost to Grigor Dimitrov in this year's Bucharest final and also settled for a runner-up finish last month at Stuttgart.

Querrey, in the last four at Winston-Salem for the third year in a row, seeks his first final of the year after prior semi-final defeats at Houston and Eastbourne.

Janowicz, ranked 52nd, seeks his first ATP title. He reached his first Grand Slam semi-final last year at Wimbledon and last week ousted eighth-ranked Dimitrov in the second round at the Cincinnati Masters event.
