SINGAPORE: Sony’s latest gaming console, the PlayStation 4 (PS4), launched in Singapore on Thursday, drawing a 160-strong crowd to its first ever pop-up store in Singapore, near the Wisma Atria shopping mall.
Among them was Aaron Tan, who had been queuing since 5am to be the first in line to collect his pre-ordered PS4 at the special launch event.
“I’ve never tried out the PS4 before, so I am very excited!” said the 38-year-old, who works in the advertising industry.
Sony said all the PS4s it had set aside for pre-orders in Singapore had been snapped up less than a month after pre-orders opened, but did not give any figures.
Singapore is the first country in Southeast Asia to get the PS4, which will be launched in Malaysia and Indonesia at a later date.
“Our company has a big commitment to Asia, because this region has huge growth potential,” said Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia’s Deputy President Hiroyuki Oda.
“That’s why we wanted to bring the PS4 to Singapore as soon as possible. Hopefully more gamers can get to enjoy it.”
