Ukrainian tycoon Petro Poroshenko won the presidential election in the first round by collecting more than half the votes, the election commission chief said on Monday.

KIEV: Ukrainian tycoon Petro Poroshenko won the presidential election in the first round by collecting more than half the votes, the election commission chief said on Monday.

"We can now already draw a fairly important conclusion: there will be no need for a second round. On May 25, 2014, a new president was elected in Ukraine," Mykhailo Okhendovskyi told reporters.
