Update On Incident Along Nicoll
Highway
Our initial assessment showed that the soil subsidence
that affected Nicoll Highway was caused by the collapse of the temporary
wall supporting the excavation site for the tunnels leading towards
the Nicoll Highway MRT Station along Circle Line Stage 1. No motorists
were travelling along Nicoll Highway when the incident occurred.
The surrounding buildings and structures have been
assessed to be safe for use by the BCA. LTA is monitoring ground
movements in the area regularly. Works on the other Circle Line
work sites are not affected.
LTA is also keeping in close contact with the relatives
of our staff and our contractor's staff involved in the incident.
We are rendering them all the necessary assistance that they require.
LTA will hold a press briefing tomorrow to update
the media on details of the incident as well as repair works to
be carried out.
As a result of the incident, road closures have been
effected at the following locations:
- Nicoll Highway, from Middle Road to Mountbatten
Road
- Access to Nicoll Highway from National Stadium
carpark
- Java Road
- Crawford Underpass
Motorists travelling from the Shenton Way/Robinson
Road area towards the eastern part of Singapore are advised to use
the following alternative routes: -
- Shenton Way to East Coast Parkway (ECP)
- Fullerton Road to St. Andrews Road to Beach Road
/or Victoria Street to Ophir Road
- Stamford Road to the north
Motorists travelling from the east towards the city
should use the following alternative routes:-
i) ECP
ii) Mountbatten Road to Kallang Road to Victoria Street
SBS Transit bus services 10, 14, 16, 70 and 196 and
CSS 608 have been diverted accordingly.

Nicoll Highway Station is one of the six stations
along Circle Line Stage 1 which is currently under construction.
At the time of the incident, the contractor, Nishimatsu Construction
Co. Ltd/Lum Chang Building Contractors Pte Ltd Joint Venture was
carrying excavation works for the tunnel.
