First Stage Of Repair Works
For Nicoll Highway Completed
The Land Transport Authority (LTA)
and its contractors have completed the first stage of repair works
at the Nicoll Highway incident site. This involved pumping foam
concrete to fill up the deep cavities on site as well as the surrounding
area.
"Close to 2,900 cubic metres of concrete was
used, raising the level at the collapsed site to about 15 metres
below ground level," said Guy Taylor, Senior Project Manager
for Stage 1 of the Circle Line.
The next stage of repair works has begun this morning.
Mixed concrete, comprising of soil and cement are poured into the
site to form a level platform. This mixture of concrete holds the
ground in place, further stabilising the ground conditions on site.
This stage of repair works is expected to complete by first week
of May 2004. Thereafter, the removal of steel and concrete debris
will take place.

to be completed by tonight, subject to the weather conditions,"
said Quek Song Kim, Manager for Road Structure and Facilities Management.
