Update On Progress Of Repair
Works For Nicoll Highway
Crawford Underpass Re-Opens To Traffic
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will re-open the
Crawford Underpass to traffic from 6.00am on 29 April 2004. This
is after Merdeka Bridge has been separated and the recovery activities
have been confined to the worksite.
To complement the opening of the underpass as well
as improve accessibility into and out of the city, LTA has created
a direct two-way link between Republic Avenue and Nicoll Highway
near The Concourse Shopping Mall.
Motorists from Kallang Road and Lavender Street, heading
towards the city, can now travel along Crawford Street, through
the Crawford Underpass into Republic Avenue, to access the city-bound
part of Nicoll Highway.
Motorists travelling out of the city in the direction
of the Kallang/ Lavender area can also use this route. In addition,
motorists coming from Kallang Road will now have more direct access
towards the city and Marina area.
This new traffic scheme, together with the earlier
traffic improvements in the vicinity of Nicoll Highway, is expected
to improve traffic which has been diverted to Kallang Road and other
alternative routes.
The ERP charges for the Restricted Zone will be applicable
for motorists going through Crawford Street. The ERP charge along
Kallang Road will still be waived from 8.30am to 9.30am until further
notice. The ERP charges can be found on the LTA One.Motoring
website.
Maps are attached for reference.
Update on repair and recovery works
The second stage of repair works, which commenced
since yesterday, is in full swing.
