The crux of the Olympian account occurred in the Archive's Section of the Stadium complex... I got my father to pose next to a picture of Tokyo Games poster. For me, this was truly a touching moment. Seeing my father, who has always been a pretty straight laced man, clearly experiencing an emotional moment was rare as it was heartfelt.

Soccer: Goal-line technology set for test
LONDON : World soccer chief Sepp Blatter has confirmed that goal-line technology will be used in the 2006 World Cup if a trial run at the Under-17 world championships in Peru proves a success. To avoid any controversy over whether a side has scored or not, a system has been developed whereby balls fitted with a microchip will send a signal to the referee when they have crossed the line. "We will definitely use the technology in Germany if the experiment works," said FIFA president Sepp Blatter, adding that a decision will be made by world football's governing body in October.

London to host 2012 Olympics

London has won the bid to host the 2012 Olympics, defeating Paris, New York, Madrid and Moscow.

The British capital beat hot favourite Paris by just four votes. The final count was 54-50 for London.

London's victory was assured when Madrid were knocked out in the third round of voting. The majority of the Spanish backers switched to London, pushing them over the line.

Moscow was eliminated in the first round and New York in the second round.

The city plans to construct a new 500-acre Olympic complex in east London.

It last hosted the Games in 1908 and 1948.

2012 Olympics Reduced to 26 Sports

International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge managed to remove two sports from the London 2012 programme - baseball and softball - but his attempt to have them replaced in a secret vote collapsed.

IOC members supported squash and karate but refused to give them the crucial 'Olympic sport' status needed to be in the Games.

To become an Olympic sport requires a change in the Olympic Charter, which takes a two-thirds majority.
