The crux of the Olympian account occurred in the Archive's Section of the Stadium complex... I got my father to pose next to a picture of Tokyo Games poster. For me, this was truly a touching moment. Seeing my father, who has always been a pretty straight laced man, clearly experiencing an emotional moment was rare as it was heartfelt.

Selecting The 2012 Winner

London wins the bid to host the 2012 Olympics, defeating Paris, New York, Madrid and Moscow.

The British capital beat hot favourite Paris by just four votes. The final count was 54-50 for London.

London's victory was assured when Madrid were knocked out in the third round of voting. The majority of the Spanish backers switched to London, pushing them over the line.

Moscow was eliminated in the first round and New York in the second round.

·

Secret vote to elect the 2012 host city. Only members who are not from the five countries bidding are allowed to vote.

·

If there is no winner in the first round, the city with the lowest number of votes is out and members vote again.

·

If two or more cities are tied for the lowest number of votes, a runoff election will be held between them, with the winner going on to the next round.

·

The IOC members from the ousted city are now allowed to vote.

·

Voting continues, the lowest going out each round, until there is a majority of members supporting one city.

IOC president Jacques Rogge announces the winning city for the 2012 Olympic Games at 1930 SST.
