SINGAPORE: When people think of storytelling, they usually assume that the audience will be a crowd of young children. But there is a group of storytellers whose tales are strictly for adults only.

They are from the Storytelling Association of Singapore which is in the business of entertaining with words, and little else.

Kamini Ramachandran, president of the Storytelling Association (Singapore), said: "It's not a juvenile or childish audience. So you can play with imagery and visuals, and different terms. Adult audiences love that, this sort of stimulation of the mind."

Without props or elaborate costumes, all they need are their fables which range from favourite classics, time-honoured folk tales to original stories.

At an event called "Seductive Stories at Suppertime", the audience sat back and enjoyed the chronicles after a simple dinner. First-timers and long-time fans were clearly spellbound.

One of them said: "This is the first such event I've been to, with dinner and storytelling. It was artfully performed and I've never heard these stories before, very interesting. I liked the company, enjoyed it thoroughly and the whole atmosphere was a great build-up."

For those who are interested to hear some of these narratives, the association's next event is "An Evening of Sexy Stories" on October 10.
