Parliament passed a total of seven Bills at its two-day sitting, including the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill to implement tax changes announced in the 2008 Budget Statement. Also in place, legislation for limited partnerships to be set up and registered, greater protection for employees with clearer definitions of part-time worker and stricter licensing of money-lenders with penalties for loan-shark actions.
Earlier on Monday 17 November, MPs agreed to raise the minimum age of marriage for Malay-Muslims to 18 years of age, under the Administration of Muslim Law (Amendment) Bill.
Four Bills were introduced in Parliament which has adjourned till 2009.

The minimum marrying age for Muslims is being raised from 16 years to 18 years and divorces effected in Singapore must be reported to the Syariah Court, under the Administration of Muslim Law (Amendment) Bill. This was moved by Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim in an effort to tackle rising divorce rates among Muslims.
