The new Parliament Chamber has 90 MPs, with 87 elected and three Non-Constituency MPs (NCMPs).
Ministers will occupy the front row of the government side of the chamber.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be flanked by his two Deputy Prime Ministers, Teo Chee Hean and Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Sitting directly opposite the Prime Minister is the Secretary-General of the Workers' Party, Mr Low Thia Khiang. The Workers' Party has the largest number of opposition MPs in the House this time round.
Sitting along the same row are five former ministers who had stepped down from the government after the last elections. They are Emeritus Senior Minister, Mr Goh Chok Tong; former minister mentor, Mr Lee Kuan Yew; former deputy PM, Mr Wong Kan Seng; and former ministers Mr Mah Bow Tan and Mr Raymond Lim.
Seated together at the back of the Chamber will be Mr Yee Jenn Jong, Mrs Lina Chiam and Mr Gerald Giam - the three NCMPs. NCMPs are opposition candidates who lost with the best vote count in a general election.
There are nine vacant seats to be occupied by Nominated MPs, a scheme introduced in September 1990 to bring more independent voices to Parliament. Nominations for NMPs will begin after Parliament opens. |
