GUIDE: WHO CAN VOTE? OVERSEAS VOTING

Eligibility
as Voters

For the coming Presidential Election 2011, you can check if you are eligible to vote by accessing the Elections Department eServices or head down to any of your nearest Community Centre/Club or Elections Department.

You will be eligible to vote if on 1 January 2011, which is the cut-off date for the revision of the registers of electors:
a. You are a citizen of Singapore i.e. holder of a Pink-coloured Identity Card;
b. You are at least 21 years old; and
c. You are ordinarily resident or deemed to be ordinarily resident in Singapore.

Non-Voter

A non-voter is an eligible elector whose name was expunged from the registers of electors for failing to vote in an election. If your name was expunged from the registers due to your failure to vote in the 2011 General Election or an earlier election, you can apply to have your name restored to the registers of electors by using the Elections Department's eServices.

The restoration of non-voters' names to the registers of electors will be suspended upon the issuance of the Writ of Election for the upcoming Presidential Election which has to be held not later than 31 August 2011. Applications received by Elections Department on or after the day when the Writ for an election is issued will be processed only after the election.

Overseas
Voting

Overseas voting will be carried out at 9 Overseas Polling Stations located at the Singapore's High Commissions, Embassies or Consulates in Canberra, Beijing, Hong Kong, London, San Francisco, Shanghai, Tokyo, Washington and New York. These places are chosen because of the significant number of Singaporeans living in China, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Europe and America.
