Sam > I just asked that Singaporean Chinese lady for the chair, she never even open her mouth. The small kid was playing handheld video game. Wonder they really do understand english or those old generation who only knows Chinese and maybe Malay. The kid always bent down her head and so focussed and concentration on her video game when am talking to her granny or whatsoever, the old uncle also just minding his business, bend down his head gulping down his noodles. Really, so pathetic what conditions the world has changed into. The government must come up with signboards so as to educate public not to put shopping bags or any stuff on seats at food establishments during peak hours other than just use it up for seating. The floor is not dirty as when compared to other countries abroad. I didnt talk rude, those other words I mentioned were my own thoughts about those people, but I didnt expose such kind of words to them. But she said " Shut up " which I cant really take it. Law is strict here, they using it for their benefits by being really stupid or rather too selfish, if the law aint too strict, the consequences would have been rather different, I dont mind going to prison or paying a fine or both by being violent in nature or scold to them if that imparts a good lesson to them. If both the Granny and Grandpa are behaving like this, then what example does this set to that small girl whose entire universe is that handheld videogames alone? Really frustrated deep down with these kind of irritating people. |

I have seen an SCDF ambulance trying to overtake a vehicle to rush to the hospital as soon as possible as to save life. But, unfortunately, some drivers did not give way for the ambulance to pass as they think that it is not necessary. Such behaviour should not be encouraged. May I suggest that since LTA had the bus route to let the public bus travel with no obstruction. How about letting the emergency vehicles with siren & blinker switch on such as SCDF ambulances, fire engines which they are attending the emergencies to use this route as well? As it maybe assisting this emergency vehicles to save lives as soon as possible. |

I have the comment on this Ramnarayan Natarajan. The way he approach to the lady by saying:"I asked them chair is for seating and not to keep shopping bags, the floor is so damn clean, and what is there to lose if they keep it on the floor I told her"by such approach, even I had a chair will not give him as he is so rude. If he change another way by using different approach, like"Is this seat occupy or Can you spare me a chair, please. I'm sure as such approach, people will be willing to give the chair to him if not occupy. Don't you think so? |

Those were the day when Vehicles don't have aircon, they hand out, show hand signals whenever they are turning right of left, slowing down and preparing to stop. These are the past. But now, just a click of using their finger to the button signal, they don't even bother to show they are turning or using hazard light to stop. These people should be booked for dangerous driving for not giving proper signal on the road. |

Singaporeans have to be prompted by the Government through its agencies for everything.
Courtesy and graciousness has got to come from one's heart and cultivated from one's upbringing.
Campaigns like this to remind Singaporeans about public graciousness only show the exact opposite of Singaporeans' real persona and attitude. |

I went to Kopitiam @ Compass Point to have dinner with my Sister. We were short of 1 chair, and approached the Singaporean Chinese to give us 1 seat, but they were having shopping bags on it, and since the outlet is too packed, I asked them chair is for seating and not to keep shopping bags, the floor is so damn clean, and what is there to lose if they keep it on the floor I told her, the old lady, and she asked me to shut up. This is like, Singaporeans are losing kindness, graciousness, courtesy, humanity, and behaving uncivilized and like a 3rd world country's citizen. I did sent complaints to all local newspapers, kopitiam management and also to Koufu for their food in Rivervale Plaza, Sengkang got insect in Toufu. Also did complaint to NEA hawkers department to check on their food again. And also did complaint to Koufu management. The lady at Kopitiam, the management person, didnt know proper english, I know and understand the majority population is Chinese, but when asked for email id, she said " 3w.kopitiam.compasspoint.biz " which is really not a format for an email id, when asked for a feedback form, she gave me a blank paper and asked me to write on it, which no sensible person would do. Am myself a Singaporean, and feeling shameful for these irritating people who behaving stupid. Or too much Kiasuness has overcome them? Only god knows, and only god can help Singaporeans. Singapore is multi-racial, and so many people from other countries also hanging around here, mingling with locals, and if this is the impression which we as Singaporeans give to them, they wont ever come back here. |

I think the past is better than the present. In the past, the aunties would smile at you when boarding the bus together but now the aunties just rush infront of you and push you to get first on the bus. Even the china gals are learning fast, the speed they goes to get infront of you is amazing! |

And Singapore has won again,.....voted "Country With The Most Ungracious People In Asia"! I think we stand a good chance of winning the world title too if we participate. |

Is there any improvement? Are you sure? I think you made a mistake right? In fact it is getting worse, i think something must be done sooner. |

It breaks my heart each time I return to Singapore to see how fast we are regressing- whether it be in the area of graciousness, overall societal development or basic human decency. The Singapore I up uo in had a much more 'human' touch to it. Today, much of it echoes of greed, false pride, selfishness and myopic grandeur. Wake up Singapore...the rest of the world is catching up fast. We need to recapture our SOUL. |

Kindness or graciousness that is cultivated is not kindness but artificiality. |

Typical s'poreans do typical things resulting no graciousness. Most of them always think for themselves, how is it possible for them to do gracious things?? |

There are 1.5 million foreigners and they all have different habits than Singaporeans. The govt knows that - there was even a comment in the press recently. This invariably distorts the view of tourists or others that can't discern the difference between grassroot-locals and new citizens. |

I found the percentage incredulous! It just shows that 90% of those who were polled do not know what the word "graciousness" means or even more sadly, have not experienced graciousness in their lives!
Looks like our education system (as well as government campaigns that the article mentioned to be so effective) failed to set adequate standards of vocabulary as well as being gracious.
I'm also not sure how did they poll the views on other countries? Did they get people who have resided in those countries or just people's impressions after a 1 week holiday?? I've personally found Filipinos one of the most gracious bunch of people I've ever met!
