Melissa Hyak co-anchors Primetime News, Channel NewsAsia's flagship news programme, which covers the most significant developments worldwide.
Prior to that, Melissa was anchoring East Asia Tonight, which offers a focused look of the day's key developments in East Asia. In 2008, she co-anchored the Channel’s ‘live’ coverage of the Taiwan Presidential Election with Timothy Go. Melissa first joined MediaCorp News in 1998, and has presented and produced current affairs programmes, including an interactive viewer ‘live’ show, Talking Point and Insight.
Through the years, she has reported on numerous overseas assignments such as the Macau Handover 1999 and the Taiwan Presidential Elections in 2000. Melissa was also Channel NewsAsia's Hong Kong Correspondent in 2004.
Melissa has a Masters of Arts in Southeast Asian Studies from the National University of Singapore, and a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia.
When away from the camera and computer terminal, Melissa recharges with solitary brisk walks through the streets and lanes of Singapore, reading, particularly about China and strong women living in medieval Europe. She is also an accomplished classical percussionist who has performed with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. |
