Melvin Yong is an Executive Editor and a Presenter at MediaCorp’s News Division, which owns and operates Channel NewsAsia.
He is responsible for the newsgathering efforts of the Singapore reporting teams, and also oversees their production of the channel’s flagship programmes, Singapore Tonight, Singapore Business Tonight and Money Mind.
Aside from his editorial responsibilities, Melvin is an award-winning presenter. In 2001, he was named Best News Anchor at the Asian Television Awards, alongside his co-presenter Glenda Chong. He currently co-presents Primetime News, a flagship daily show packed with the day’s political, business and market developments from around the world. He also anchors Money Mind and other analysis programmes.
Melvin counts among some of the more significant events he covered in his career, the aftermath of the devastating Asian tsunami in Aceh, Indonesia, in 2004. He has also anchored the channel’s ‘live’ coverage of the Malaysian General Elections in both 2004 and 2008.
Melvin joined the then Television Corporation of Singapore in 1995 as a field reporter, covering general and business news. He holds a Master of Arts in International Relations and a Bachelor of Business (Journalism) degree from Queensland University, Australia.
Apart from news, he is passionate about technology, reading, mountain-biking and music. He plays the organ, piano and guitar. |
