1 tsp soft margarine
1 small apple, diced
1 tsp honey
1/2 glass low-fat milk
4 tbsp instant oats
Pinch of ground cinnamon

Method:

Heat soft margarine in a pan.

Add diced apple.

When apples are just soft, add honey and caramelise until golden.

Remove golden apples and set aside.

Pour oatmeal into a bowl, garnish with golden apples and dust with ground cinnamon.

Anna says:

Choose my margarine that's soft and doesn't have trans-fats which are bad for your heart.

Apples used here can be part of the two servings that you need each day. Apples have a very special fibre called pectin which is excellent for preventing constipation.

Use honey to caramelise the apples so as to make them fragrant and soft.

Milk is a good source of calcium and protein. You can even use a high calcium milk which provides even more calcium than regular milk. Calcium is important to have strong bones and good teeth. Many get osteoporosis because they don't get enough calcium in their diet.

Rolled oats have more fibre than instant oats. Since this is a breakfast meal, you can use instant oats for convenience. Oats are a good source of carbohydrates and fibre. Cook your oats till they get a little bit thick and some bubbles start forming.

Since breakfast is the only meal of the day that you can control well, take the opportunity to put in nutrients that you might miss at lunch and over dinner.
