Fatimah Lateef

Fatimah Lateef received her education at the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus, Temasek Junior College and at the National University of Singapore.

She is currently consultant at the Dept of Emergency Medicine, Singapore General Hospital and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Her other portfolios include Senior Tutor, Special Studies Module, NUS; Chairman, National Taskforce on Pre-hospital Care Medicine, MOH; Director of Undergraduate Training in Emergency Medicine, SGH; part-time Senior Clinical Lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic; Senior Clinical Tutor for Masters in Nursing, MOH and NUS and many others.

She served as an International Consultant in Emergency Medicine in India and has been appointed International Advisor, Max Institute of Medical Education, New Delhi, India.

Dr Fatimah has specialisation in the areas of Emergency Medicine/ Traumatology as well as Emergency Cardiac Care, Neurovascular Emergencies and Prehospital Care Medicine.

She received post-graduate training in both the UK and USA. She is active in instruction at various levels and is a passionate teacher in the areas of Problem-based Learning, Evidence –based Medicine and Research as well as Continuing and Adult Education.

She has conducted many ‘Train the Trainers’ programmes locally and overseas. To date she has over 80 publications in international and peer-reviewed scientific journals, presented over 100 abstracts at conferences and written several book chapters.

Some of the awards she has received include The Best Teacher Award, The Excellent Publication Award, The Young Investigator Award, The Healthcare Humanity Awards, Long Service Award (Residents’ Committee), Service Quality and EXSA Awards, The Good Mentor Award and The Courage Award (for SARS).

Dr Fatimah is an active volunteer. She is on the Board of Directors of Mercy Relief; a board member of the Family Service Centre (Marine Parade) and a specialist volunteer with the Singapore International Foundation, among others.

She has headed missions to Afghanistan (2001), Tibet (2002), Yunnan, China (2002), Bam, Iran (2003), Indonesia (1997 to 2004, 2005) and Pakistan (2005).

She has played a vital role in many bilateral collaborations which have resulted in the signing of MOUs.

She conducts many public education programmes at Community Centres, National Library Board, various schools and Malay-Muslim organisations.

She is also the advisor to many sports and adventure clubs and volunteers as their team doctor on missions. She is an avid mountain climber herself has climbed many peaks in Asia, USA, Europe, New Zealand and Africa.

She has also completed several marathons and runs regularly despite her busy schedule.

Dr Fatimah is an active member of the Toastmaster’s Club and in her free time conducts talks and workshops on career development, contribution towards world peace and volunteerism.

She comes from a close-knit family and spends her free time with her parents.
