| Lim Wee Kiak |
Lim Wee Kiak, 37, is a consultant eye surgeon in Singapore National Eye Centre.
He is married with a daughter and two sons, aged 10, 8 and 6 respectively.
He was educated in Chinese High School and Hwa Chong Junior College, after which he pursued medical studies in National University of Singapore and graduated in 1992.
He joined the SAF as a medical officer in 1994 and completed subspecialty training in Ophthalmology in 1998, graduating with a Masters degree in Medicine from National University of Singapore and two diplomas in Ophthalmology from England.
He served in the Navy as Head of Medical Operations, Doctrine and Training branch from 1998 to 2001.
During his service in SAF, he led humanitarian missions to neighbouring countries and served as team leader of the Singapore medical team deployed to the United Nations Hospital in East Timor.
In 2003, he joined Singapore National Eye Centre. He did a one-year fellowship on ocular inflammation and immunology in National Eye Institute, USA in 2004.
Dr Lim has been an active grassroots leader and has served in numerous committees since 1998.
He is currently the Chairman of Fuchun Community Club Management Committee and Vice-Chairman of Marsiling Citizens' Consultative Committee. He had served as a RC Chairman and Town Councillor.
In addition, he also serves as the Chairman for Marsiling Secondary School Advisory Committee and the Young Executive Committee in Northwest Community Development Council.
For his active community involvement, he was awarded the Young Executive of the Year in 2000 and Public Service Medal in 2003.
Dr Lim served in the Remaking Singapore Committee and has contributed many recommendations in education which were accepted and implemented.
He is also serving as a member of COMPASS (Community and Parents in Support of Schools), Ministry of Education.
Being brought up by his widowed mother and having undergone much hardship in his earlier years, Dr Lim has succeeded against all odds.
He is very passionate about education for which he considers the most important equalizer in our society.
To Dr Lim, his family has been the main source of inspiration for his voluntary work In the community, He will always make time to spend with his family despite his busy schedule.
