Defending Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton was looking to redeem himself in Singapore after crashing out in the final lap at the last race in Monza, and he certainly did.
McLaren driver who started on pole, drove a flawless race from start to finish to win the Singapore Grand Prix. He finished third in Singapore last year.
Toyota's Timo Glock finished second and Renault's Fernando Alonso, the winner of last year's race, took the last spot on the podium.

Fresh from celebrating National Day and hearing the National Day Rally address, MPs meet to reaffirm a commitment to the nation building tenets within the National Pledge when debating national policies, especially economic policies.
At the sitting on 18 August, the House also looked into the Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill and Legal Profession (Amendment) Bill. Introduced in the House were three amendments the Casino Control (Amendment) Bill, Private Education Bill and Copyright (Amendment) Bill.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in his National Day Rally speech that Singapore has seen the worst of the current recession and although a subdued recovery is expected for the global economy, the country can still grow by sharpening its skills and enlarging its market share.
Mr Lee noted Singapore is already seeing positive signs with local companies expanding and new business sectors such as in the area of interactive digital media, growing in Singapore.
And as Singapore transforms its economy, Mr Lee reminded workers to adapt and upgrade themselves.
The Prime Minister also spoke at length on the need to maintain social cohesion, particularly racial and religious harmony, which he said will continue to play an important role in Singapore's society.

Asian Youth Games
Singapore will host the first Asian Youth Games (AYG) from June 29 to July 7.
The AYG was first mooted as part of Singapore's bid for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2007.
On 3 April 2008, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) gave its approval and awarded the hosting of the first Asian Youth Games to Singapore.
More than 1,100 young athletes, aged between 14 and 17, will compete in nine sports – Athletics, Football, Sailing, Bowling, Beach Volleyball, Aquatics (Swimming and Diving), Table Tennis, FIBA 33 (Basketball) and Shooting. The athletes will compete for over 400 medals at 10 venues.

Flu Outbreak
The flu virus has spread to Asia as Singapore, India, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong reported confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1).
The World Health Organization's pandemic alert level has been raised to the maximum level of six, while Singapore's Health Ministry's flu alert level has been lowered to Yellow.
Experts have warned that the new swine flu strain could spread faster and is harder to detect compared to the SARS virus, which caused an epidemic in 2003.

Mas Selamat Arrest 
Mas Selamat Kastari, Singapore's JI leader who escaped from Whitley Road Detention Centre on February 27 last year, has been arrested.
The terrorist was arrested in Malaysia in a joint intelligence operation involving the internal security agencies of the two countries on April 1 but had been under interrogation in Malaysia.

AWARE Dispute
The new executive committee (Exco) of the Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) has been given a vote of no confidence at Saturday's extraordinary general meeting.
The vote of no confidence was passed against the new Exco, with a margin of 1,414 votes to 761 votes.
The motion to remove the new Exco from office was passed, and the motion to elect a new president was also passed.
Former president Dana Lam has been nominated for post of President, while Chew I-Jin has been proposed for Vice President post. |

Singapore Budget 2009 
The Singapore government has unveiled a S$20.5b Resilience Package which aims to save jobs, help businesses and enhance competitiveness. The highly expansionary Budget will result in a S$8.7b deficit - the country's largest ever.
Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said the government will be dipping into its reserves to draw S$4.9b to fund two temporary and extraordinary measures - Jobs Credit and a Special Risk-Sharing Initiative. More details in our special report. |
