JAKARTA : Indonesia issued another tsunami alert on Thursday along the west coast of Sumatra after a major aftershock of 6.8 rattled the area, the meteorological agency said.

The quake hit 121 kilometres northwest of the city of Bengkulu, at a depth of 10 kilometres, the agency said in a telephone text message.

"There is the potential for a tsunami," it warned.

The alert was the fifth for the area since a massive 8.4-magnitude quake jolted the region on dusk at Wednesday, killing at least 10 people. - AFP/de
