BEIJING - Two women were pulled out alive from the rubble of China's earthquake on Monday after surviving for nearly a full week, state media said.

Li Lingcui, 61, was conscious when she was rescued from under the rubble in Beichuan county, one of the worst-hit areas, at around 10:40 am (0240 GMT), state-run CCTV said.

Xinhua news agency said she had an infection and many broken bones.

Wang Fazhen, 50, was pulled out from under a collapsed residential building of a coalmine at Hanwang in Deyang city at 11:10 am, Xinhua said. No details were available about her condition.

Around 10,000 people remain unaccounted for under the debris caused by last Monday's quake, which killed an estimated 50,000 people and reduced entire towns to rubble.

The number of miracle stories has tapered off since Sunday. Experts say the chances of surviving under earthquake rubble recede greatly after three days. - AFP/ir
