SINGAPORE: The first informal meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Six-Party Talks on the denuclearisation of North Korea is set to take place in Singapore Wednesday on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ministerial Meeting.
In a statement issued late Tuesday night on ASEAN's meeting with its plus three partners, namely China, Japan and South Korea, the ministers welcomed recent developments that have contributed to regional peace and security in East Asia.
They reiterated their support for the Six-Party Talks and for the eventual normalisation of relations between the relevant Six-Party members.
The ministers also stressed the need to establish an effective verification mechanism.
Meanwhile, ASEAN and its plus three partners have launched a Cooperation Fund with an initial contribution of US$3 million.
China, Japan and Korea would each contribute US$900,000 while ASEAN would contribute US$300,000.
The Fund would help implement more projects under the various cooperation agreements which the three countries have with ASEAN.
