BEIJING: One person was killed Sunday in a blast near a police post in China's financial hub Shanghai, the state news agency Xinhua reported.

The incident took place at about midday (0400 GMT) near the gate of the municipal public security bureau office on Wuning South Road, the brief report said, adding that no one else had been injured in the explosion.

The person killed was not immediately identified, a police official told Xinhua.

Police have launched an investigation, the report said.
