PORT BLAIR, India: A moderate earthquake struck north of India's Andaman Islands early Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.

The 5.2-magnitude quake hit at 01:59 am (2029 GMT Wednesday) at a depth of 35 kilometres.

The quake's epicentre was just over 200 kilometres north of the archipelago which lies in the Bay of Bengal, the USGS said.
