UNITED NATIONS - UN chief Ban Ki-moon is rushing his chief of staff Vijay Nambiar back to Sri Lanka to press for protection of trapped civilians in the country's northeast, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
UN deputy spokeswoman Marie Okabe told a press briefing that the secretary general "is sending his chef de cabinet to Sri Lanka this evening to underscore his message and to help resolve the humanitarian situation."

Nambiar already visited Colombo last month to try to ease the plight of tens of thousands of civilians trapped by fighting between government forces and Tamil separatists.
