BEIJING: China's President Hu Jintao left Beijing for Italy, where he will take part in the G8 summit of world leaders and pay a state visit, state media reported.
Hu was accompanied by a delegation of senior leaders, including Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and commerce minister Chen Deming, the official Xinhua news agency said.
Joined by more than 200 business people, Hu will first pay a state visit to Italy before going to L'Aquila for the July 8-10 summit of G8 nations, comprising Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States.
Hu will also meet the leaders of Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and India as part of the G5 -- a group of five key emerging nations including China -- as well as Egypt.
He will also hold talks individually with some leaders, including US President Barack Obama, before leaving for a two-day state visit to Portugal on July 10.
